Larry was a three sport athlete at East High. In football, Larry was a halfback and captain, who helped lead the Tomcats to a 7-0-1 record and East's first undisputed Big 7 Conference Championship. He was a unanimous selection to the All-Conference team and was also named to the All-State team. Larry also was a member of the basketball and track teams. He was captain of the basketball team and participated in the long jump, high jump and the sprints for the track team. The track team captured the Big Seven Conference Championship in 1927.
