    Chris Vanbuskirk Hoelscher, Class of 1986

    Chris earned a total of 9 varsity letters as an athlete at East High. She was a 3-year starter on the varsity volleyball team. In 1995 she was captain, team MVP, and Honorable Mention All Conference. In basketball, Chris was a member of the tournament team that advanced to the Elite Eight in Champaign. She then was a starting forward for the next two seasons, including the 84-85 team that reached the Sweet 16 with a record of 22-7. Chris was co-captain in 85-86. As a softball player, Chris was on the varsity team for four seasons. She was team MVP in 1986 and made the Upstate Eight All-Conference Team. In addition, Chris was named the East High 1986 Female Athlete of the Year.

    Chris then attended Aurora University from 1986-1990. She played varsity volleyball and softball each of these four years. Chris was captain of the 1989 softball team and earned All-Conference honors that season. In 1990 she received the Chris Thompson Award, which recognizes a female athlete demonstrating outstanding character.

    Upon graduating from AU, Chris joined the East High softball coaching staff for the 1991 season. After a 3-year tenure as teacher/coach at Waubonsie Valley, and coach at AU, Chris returned to East for the 1994-95 school year. For the next four years, Chris was the Tomcat girl's varsity volleyball head coach, as well as a member of the softball coaching staff. In 1998 became the sophomore volleyball coach at Wilmington High School, and in 1999 she moved up to varsity volleyball coach. Her teams won 2 conference championships and 2 regional championships. In 2004, she began her current position as the varsity assistant volleyball coach at Rosary High School.

    Chris, and her husband Darryl, reside in Shorewood, IL with their daughter Emma and son Zachary.
